COURTYARD HOUSE BEHIND THE FORT

Behind the fort are located six restored housing complexes situated right next to each other, that provide an exemplary insight into the characteristics of traditional living quarters at Al Jazeera Al Hamra.

While differing in size and number of houses within individual complexes, all of the complexes represent the different elements of past architecture, which include summer and winter houses, alongside domestic structures such as a wells, kitchens and date presses, known as the mabdasa. The largest house complex features a row of beautiful decorated arched niches, originally belonging to a ventilation system of wind catchers.
